Welcome to “Not Invented Here”

Behind each great piece of software is a talented, concientious team of hardworking individuals dedicated to producing the highest quality product using internationally accepted best practices and industry standards. And then there are these guys.

Owen

is a program manager. He writes specifications, manages the schedule, and coordinates with his counterparts in the rest of the company. Supposedly.

Desmond

is a developer. He takes Owen's specs and turns them into living breathing code. He believes programming is an art, and you can't rush art. He also believes that a "low G" on a ukulele is a crime against nature.

Meatloaf

is Desmond's pet hamster. Or, possibly, Desmond is Meatloaf's pet developer.

Art

went to all the best schools and made a series of excellent career choices. He's still trying to figure out how he ended up managing Owen and Desmond.

Umesh

is an acerbic developer on Owen and Desmond's project. He works in the office next door.

Marketroid

was Desmond's senior project in college, now upgraded to the latest developments in A.I. and programmed by Owen to be his ideal marketer. Owen isn't the best programmer.

Eliza

is Owen's counterpart on a competing project at the same company. Competition is healthy... right?

Bill Barnes

spent two decades in the software industry working a variety of jobs from coding to speechwriting before becoming a professional cartoonist. He draws and co-writes Unshelved and is teaching himself ukulele.

Paul Southworth

has been creating webcomics since 1999, including the long-running Ugly Hill and more recently You Are Dead. He has been doodling monsters and funny animals for his entire life, which he feels has prepared him well to turn his pen on the software industry.

Design

by Paul, tweaked by Bill and Tyler Martin, who then turned it into HTML + CSS.

Code

by Bill using C#, asp.net MVC, LINQ to SQL, NHAML, MailChimp, Perceptive MCAPI, and Amazon S3. Running on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V and SQL Server 2005 at CrystalTech.
